This article explores the historical roots, cultural significance, and changes in matchmaking rituals in the context of globalization, urbanization, and the digital age. We examine how pre-Islamic beliefs, Zoroastrianism, and Islam have shaped unique traditions, as well as the role of family, the mahalla, and symbolic rituals such as «Fatiha-tuy» and «Non Sindirish» (breaking of the flatbread). Particular attention is paid to traditional aspects: bride selection, the functions of matchmakers (sovchi), the significance of gifts (fabrics, sweets), and national clothing, such as the khan-atlas or chapan, as well as religious elements, including prayers.

The paper analyzes contemporary transformations: the simplification of rituals in cities such as Tashkent and Samarkand, the influence of social media and dating apps, and economic factors leading to cost-sharing between families. We examine how European trends, including white wedding dresses, are integrated into traditional practices. Based on a mixed-method approach — literature analysis, questionnaires, and interviews with young people, parents, and matchmakers — the study demonstrates that matchmaking retains cultural value while adapting to new conditions. The article offers recommendations for preserving traditions and emphasizes their importance for national identity and the cohesion of Uzbek society.

Keywords: matchmaking; Uzbekistan; traditions; rituals; Fatiha-tuy; Non sindirish; sovchi; khan-atlas; chapan; family; mahalla; digital technologies; urbanization; globalization; economic factors; European influence; cultural heritage; national identity; social networks

Kadyrova Feruza Rukhsibaevna Tashkent, Uzbekistan E-mail: feruzaqodirova2973@mail.com Abstract.
