Abstract. Social media is an important part of the lives of young people, including students. On the one hand, social media platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, and messengers such as Telegram and VKontakte host educational public pages, video tutorials, groups for exam preparation, and chats where students share experiences. Motivational posts and success stories inspire, help set goals, and connecting with like-minded people makes studying more engaging. However, social media also has its downsides: endless feeds, humorous content, and videos are so addictive that time is wasted, tasks are put off, and constant comparisons with the «perfect» lives depicted on social media can lead to self-doubt. Research confirms that excessive social media use reduces concentration and motivation, but with a mindful approach, it can become an effective learning tool.
This article examines the impact of social media on students and explores the balance that determines the effectiveness of online learning.
Keywords: social media; academic motivation; concentration; stress; educational resources; motivational posts; networking; time management; balance
