Abstract. Sunnat-tuy, or circumcision, occupies a special place in Uzbek culture: the rite symbolizes a boy’s entry into the Muslim community and his transition to a new stage of adulthood.
This paper explores the deep roots and centuries-old traditions associated with Sunnat-tuy in Uzbekistan. It examines the religious aspects of the rite and its cultural significance as an important family celebration uniting relatives, friends, and neighbors. It covers the preparatory stages and the actual process of the rite, accompanied by special rituals, prayers, and blessings.
It analyzes the transformation of Sunnat-tuy in modern Uzbek society, the preservation of its key elements, and its adaptation to new realities. Particular attention is paid to the emotional component of the holiday, its role in strengthening social ties and transmitting cultural heritage from generation to generation.
