Abstract. This article examines the role of the teacher as a mentor in the personal and professional development of students at higher education institutions. Mentoring is viewed as an important tool that helps young people not only acquire professional skills but also develop a strong value system and self-confidence, thereby shaping them into mature individuals prepared for the challenges of the modern world.
This article explores the theoretical foundations of mentoring. It examines its concept and essence in teaching practice, analyzes the key functions of the teacher as a mentor, and the main approaches that underlie this process. The impact of mentoring on student development is analyzed. Particular attention is paid to how mentor support contributes to the development of personal qualities and helps students define their professional goals and chart a career path. The problems and prospects of mentoring in higher education are identified.
